Nusret Gökçe is the man better known as #SaltBae on the internet. His personal style harnesses the spirit of the angry young man, but his flamboyancy showcases a love for meat, from its butchery and slicing to its marination and grilling.
Born into an impoverished family, Nusret entered the world of butchery as a teenager. Over the years he has worked hard to become a restaurateur with Nusr-et Steakhouses across Turkey, Dubai and Abu Dhabi. A branch is also expected to open in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia – there are also plans to take the brand to London, Berlin and New York.

But it is his theatrical meat slicing and salting preparation that has garnered him a rapt audience. With over 4.9 million followers on his Instagram account (@nusr_et), he has also spawned a host of copycats and internet memes.
#SaltBae inspiration – is Doha ready?
His signature cobra-like move in salting the meat is apparently his own way of blessing the meat. His path to internet stardom resulted from a video of him slicing and preparing an ottoman steak which he then salted – to date the video has nearly 13 million views!
