The flying cows landed in Qatar last night!
Over 160 Holstein cows were transported by air cargo from Germany, via Budapest. According to The Peninsula the first batch of fresh milk from these cows will hit the shelves this month.
The bovine animals were transported from Europe by air, as part of a expedited plan to increase local milk production. Within the next few weeks nearly 4,000 cows will be transported to Qatar, with herds arriving from Australia and America.
The company behind the importing of the herds, Power International Holding, has sent this batch to Baladna Farm in Al Khor. Chairman Moutaz Al Khayyat indicated, at full capacity, the milk will supply 30% of Qatar’s requirements.
As part of the support national products campaign there has been heightened interest and increasing awareness of local Qatar brands such as Baladna. Their dairy products such as milk, cheese and yoghurt are available at local hypermarkets.
As well as its Al Khor farm and restaurants, the company also has outlets at Corniche Street (+974 4410 6699), the Pearl-Qatar (+974 4451 6795), and in Mall of Qatar (+974 4028 5633).
