Shop Qatar returns for another month of celebrations and shopping promotions.

The second edition of Qatar’s official shopping festival continues until 7th February under the slogan ‘A Brand New Tradition’. It will feature Arabian, Bollywood, and International themed events.

Shop Qatar is the country’s official shopping festival and features a series of nation-wide promotional offers, discounts, entertainment and public celebrations. With its wide variety of shopping offers, raffle draws, fashion shows, pop-up shops and cultural performances, the month-long festival promises something to enjoy for all ages.

With the anticipated opening of many new shopping and entertainment hubs, Shop Qatar will pave the way for their success by driving footfall and raising awareness of the unique experiences the country has to offer.

Rashed Al Qurese, Chief Marketing and Promotion Officer at QTA, commented, “Shop Qatar 2018 will be the first of many projects in 2018 which support our efforts to diversify source markets and enrich our annual calendar of tourist events.”

He added, “In addition to diversifying our tourism products, Shop Qatar 2018 is designed to appeal to an international audience, leveraging the country’s new status as the most open country in the region.” Shop Qatar’s success will be supported by the country’s recent visitor entry measures with entry visas waived for citizens of 80 nationalities and an extended 96-hour transit visa.

Residents and visitors can enjoy a vibrant 3 week schedule of fashion and entertainment events, and indulge in attractive discounts on popular brands. Shoppers will also be able to enter raffles to win car and cash prizes worth up to QAR 4 million; and a rich schedule of fashion and entertainment events.

Officials have stated that the inaugural edition of Shop Qatar in 2017 contributed an estimated 1.06 billion QAR to the local economy. The QTA will be working with brand partners to bring fun events and tempting promotions to the public.

The Director of Festivals & Tourism Events at QTA highlighted the importance of its partners, “The growing involvement and participation of partners from the private sector and local businesses is key to ensuring that our festivals reflect Qatar’s culture, and the economic and social needs of its citizens and residents.”

Shop Qatar will support local entrepreneurs with 30 pop-up shops in Mall of Qatar. Small businesses will showcase their products and provide mall visitors with an authentic Qatari experience.

The month-long festival also coincides with outdoor carnivals being held at Souq Waqif and Mall of Qatar, giving a variety of choices for families to enjoy the pleasant outdoor weather this winter.

With live entertainment and 30 unique amusement park rides, families can look forward to more than 60 activities to enjoy at the Souq Waqif from 25th December 2017 to 25th April 2018. While the Mall of Qatar Fun Fair will take place between 15th January to 15th April, featuring paintballing to giant slides and the world’s first 3-axis Virtual Reality Game.

Mall Events

The festival will shed a spotlight on the new and enticing additions to Qatar’s burgeoning retail scene, with 13 malls and shopping complexes participating. Retail partners will host exclusive in-mall entertainment and roaming mall shows, with fun for the whole family.

Retail outlets around Qatar will be providing special offers and discounts of up to 50% on a range of consumer goods including clothes, electronics, cosmetics and accessories for men, women and children.

Participating malls are, AlKhor Mall, City Centre, Doha Festival City, Gulf Mall, Hyatt Plaza, Lagoona Mall, Landmark Mall, Mall of Qatar, Tawar Mall, The Gate Mall, Villaggio, Ezdan Mall and Dar Al Salam Mall.

Souq Waqif Tours

Shopping tours of Souq Waqif will be organised in conjunction with Embrace Doha. The tours will guide groups of maximum 15 people through the Souq, stopping along the way to sample and learn about spices, incense, traditional food, art and clothes.

Arabian Week: 7 – 13 January

Fashion fans can catch up on the latest trends sweeping countries from Marrakesh to Muscat at the Arabian Fashion Show being hosted at the Mondrian Hotel at 7:00pm on Wednesday 10th January. The showcase of over 100 looks will feature designs by celebrity designers.

To wrap up the week, Kuwaiti celebrity makeup artist Hanan AlNajada will be giving a makeup masterclass on Saturday 13th January at the Ritz-Carlton Hotel, where ladies can learn how to perfect their look for 2018. Seats are limited and are selling for QAR 2,000, available to buy at Virgin Megastore.

Bollywood Week: 14 – 20 January

A dazzling display of Saris and Lehenga dresses is expected at the Bollywood Fashion Show being held at 7:00pm on Wednesday 17th January, at the Mondrian Hotel. Over 100 different looks will be on show.

Malls participating in Shop Qatar will also host a variety of Bollywood-themed pop-up shops inviting mall-goers to create and personalise their own embroidered khussa slippers, bangles and much more.

International Week: From 21 January

A dazzling display of vibrant designs from around the world is expected at the International Fashion Show being held at 7:00pm on Wednesday 24th January, at the Mondrian Hotel. Over 100 different looks will be on show.

The world-famous Chainsmokers will kick off their world tour by playing at DECC. Tickets are priced from QAR 275, and available to buy from Virgin Megastore.
