Traditional Thai New Year Celebrations begin from the 13 to 15th April and is known as Songkran. Water plays an important role in the annual Songkran festtival, with the element representing purification and cleansing.
The nation of Thailand takes this celebration seriously closing roads so that local residents can take part in water fights – the modern version of the tradition of splashing water on each other. As a sign of respect the younger members of pour water over the palms of the hands of the elders in the family.
